Kolkata Airport Hotel Transfers: Why No Hotel Runs a Free Shuttle, and How to Get to Each One
No Kolkata airport hotel runs a free shuttle. None of the hotels in this guide runs a free shuttle; each sells a paid airport car at a fixed price, app cabs pick up from a designated zone outside arrivals, and one hotel, the Holiday Inn Express, is close enough to walk to. This guide gives the price and routine for each hotel as of September 2026, so you can decide between booking the car, opening the app, or crossing the road.
Paid cars, app cabs or walking
Indian airports outside the big private hubs rarely have hotel shuttle loops, and Kolkata is no exception: hotels here sell transfers as a service, per vehicle, booked with the reservation or at the desk. The prices are fixed and the driver meets you in the arrivals hall with a name board, which for a family landing at midnight from Dubai is worth the premium. The alternative is an app cab (Ola, Uber or the state-backed Yatri Sathi) booked from inside the terminal on the free Wi-Fi and collected from the app-cab zone outside the arrivals exit, or a prepaid taxi from the counter near Gate 3C. The one thing not to do is follow a man who offers a taxi in the hall.
Holiday Inn Express: walk it
The Holiday Inn Express Kolkata Airport is on Jessore Road opposite the airport, 800 metres from the departure gates. From the arrivals hall, follow Jessore Road past Gate 1 and cross at the signal: ten minutes with hand luggage, on a pavement that is patchy in places. With children and checked bags, the hotel’s own car (about ₹500 per vehicle each way, available 24 hours) or an app cab takes five minutes. It is the only hotel at CCU you can walk to.
Holiday Inn Kolkata Airport and Howard Johnson: Rajarhat, 10 to 15 minutes
The Holiday Inn Kolkata Airport on Biswa Bangla Sarani is 4.7 km away; its travel desk books an airport car in either direction at any hour, priced on request, and an app cab runs about ₹200 to ₹350. The Howard Johnson in New Town Square is about 6 km and 11 to 15 minutes; its airport shuttle is about ₹650 per vehicle each way, 24 hours on request through the front desk. Both are a straight run down VIP Road and Biswa Bangla Sarani that only slows in the evening rush.
Westin, Novotel and Fairfield: New Town, 20 to 25 minutes
The three New Town hotels are 9.5 to 12.5 km from the terminal, 20 minutes outside the peaks and 30 to 40 in them. The Westin Kolkata Rajarhat charges ₹1,365 one way for its car, booked through the concierge. The Fairfield by Marriott Kolkata publishes ₹800 one way or ₹1,600 return. The Novotel Kolkata runs a paid shuttle on call through reception, and its Suite rate includes airport transfers. App cabs to any of the three run about ₹250 to ₹450 off peak and surge in the evening; for an arrival between 5 pm and 9 pm the fixed hotel price can end up cheaper.
Going back to the airport
Book the return the night before, whichever way you go. Hotel cars are timed to the flight and the desks know the morning traffic; app cabs are plentiful in Rajarhat and New Town from 5 am but scarce in the small hours at the New Town end. For a 6 am departure to Bagdogra or the Northeast from a New Town hotel, leave at 4 am; from Rajarhat at 4:15; from the Express, walk out at 4:45. The terminal guide explains what happens at the door.
Tips
Give the hotel your flight number when you book a car, so the driver tracks a delay. Keep small notes for app-cab tolls and the odd parking fee at the airport pickup. During Durga Puja, add an hour to any road transfer that passes Lake Town on VIP Road; the Durga Puja travel guide explains why. And if a driver anywhere suggests a “better hotel” than the one you booked, that is a tout’s routine; insist on your address.

An Ola, Uber or Yatri Sathi cab to the Holiday Inn Kolkata Airport or the Howard Johnson costs roughly ₹200 to ₹350 off peak and takes 10 to 15 minutes; a prepaid taxi from the counter is a little more. To the New Town hotels, count on ₹250 to ₹450 and 20 to 30 minutes.

For a late-night or early-morning arrival with a family and luggage, the hotel car: the driver waits with a name board, the price is fixed and there is no surge. For a daytime arrival with light bags, an app cab from the pickup zone is cheaper. Never accept a ride from anyone who approaches you inside the terminal.
Can I walk from Kolkata Airport to a hotel?
